01

Who we are

Should I? is a community for sharing decisions and hearing other perspectives. For privacy questions or requests, contact us at yjs_maoge@163.com.

02

Information we collect

When you sign in, Clerk handles authentication. Our service receives your account identifier and available email address, display name, and avatar. If you choose Google, Discord, or Facebook sign-in, those providers may share profile information according to the permissions you grant.

We store decisions you submit, including the question, category, context, and up to three images. We also store votes, optional voting reasons, helpful reactions, reports, notifications, and moderation records. A guest vote is associated with a random browser identifier, rather than a signed-in account.

Our servers and service providers may process technical information needed to deliver the site, such as IP address and request details. If Google Analytics 4 is enabled, it may collect page views, interaction events, device information, and analytics cookies. We do not send decision text or voting reasons as custom analytics event parameters.

03

How we use information

We use this information to operate accounts, publish approved decisions, show votes and reasons, prevent duplicate guest votes, send in-app notifications, review reports, keep the service secure, and understand aggregate usage when analytics is enabled.

04

What others can see

Approved decisions, their images, author display names, and vote totals are shown in the public plaza. People who vote on a decision can also see its visible voting reasons. A decision stays private to its author and administrators while it is pending review; rejected or removed decisions do not appear in the public plaza.

Do not include sensitive personal information in a question, image, or voting reason that you would not want other people to see. Uploaded images are stored on our server and served from a public image URL; review status controls where they appear in the app, not whether someone with the image URL can retrieve them.

05

Cookies and local storage

Clerk may use cookies or similar storage to maintain your sign-in session. We set a one-year HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax cookie for the random guest voter identifier. Your language choice is saved locally as shouldi-locale. In development builds only, shouldi-decisions caches decision data for the local preview; production removes that cache. If Google Analytics 4 is enabled, Google may use analytics cookies. Browser settings can clear local storage and cookies, although doing so may sign you out or change how guest voting works.

06

Services and sharing

We use Clerk for authentication, the sign-in providers you choose (Google, Discord, or Facebook), MySQL for service data, and our hosting provider for uploaded images and site delivery. Google Analytics 4 is used only when configured. We share the information needed for those services to work and do not sell personal information. A link you choose to share may also be processed by the destination platform.

07

Retention and security

We retain account and participation data while needed to operate the service, resolve reports, meet legal obligations, or handle a deletion request. Some records may remain temporarily in backups or where retention is required by law. We use access controls and other reasonable safeguards, but no internet service is completely secure.

08

Your choices and requests

You can choose whether to add images or a voting reason, switch languages, and clear browser storage. To ask for access, correction, or deletion of your information, email yjs_maoge@163.com. We may ask for information needed to verify that the request relates to your account. See our data deletion instructions for the steps.

09

Children, changes, and contact

Should I? is not designed for children under 13. If we learn that a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review it.

We may update this policy as the service changes. The effective date above shows when this version began. For questions, email yjs_maoge@163.com.
